Teach Your Child to Care For the Environment by Recycling
Children begin learning at birth; and habits are formed very early. This is why we should start teaching them early the "green" habits that will make them responsible adults. Every thing that small children see, they imitate.
So at an early age, we need to teach them the habits of recycling, to take care of the environment and to respect the world around them.
Kids learn by example and we need to be Eco-friendly in order to teach them how to be as well. The more we get them involved in recycling and making sure they understand why recycling is important, the more they will enjoy the process.
We cannot assume that our children already know the reason why they should be Eco-friendly. We should also explain to them what could happen if people did not respect the environment. Children often enjoy more hands on activities.
There are many different ways that we can teach our kids to recycle.
Here are just a few steps that can make recycling fun for children: Plan a nature hike to show them how beautiful our world is, and then show them pictures of how littering can destroy Earth's beauty.
Write a song with your child or children about cleaning up the environment. Let them have a race to see who can collect the most recyclables in a given time, and reward the winner accordingly.
Let your child be in charge of the recycling projects you go on.
You can designate bins together and let them be responsible for making signs for each bin.
Let them decorate the bins to create a sense of ownership.
Recycling doesn't have to be all about trash, metal, and glass.
We can recycle a number of things simply by reusing them in other ways or letting others reuse them.
Teach your children to recycle old books by donating to their classroom; allow them to recycle by donating old clothes or toys to the Goodwill. You can turn your trash into a treasure hunt for recyclables.
Reuse common house hold items to make crafts with your kids during a sleep over.
Offer them the monetary proceeds for every set of items that they collect and recycle.
We have to keep our kids excited about recycling.
We, as adults, need to be excited about recycling also.
When they see us excited, they seem to be too.
Make it a point to let your kids see you sorting and recycling.
Getting my daughter to clean her room is always a task.
But when we make it fun by singing the "Clean up Song" or turning it into a treasure hunt, she enjoys it and gets the chore done faster.
By keeping kids excited about recycling, you will keep them interested in the project and develop lasting skills and habits that will follow them into their adult life.
